My experiment of checking out if P/2 could be used nicely for microblogging failed after realied that the RSS feed in any case contains a title even if the post doesn’t. Well, too bad for now. Maybe if one can self-host it at some point in the future things might be different.

Just by chance I realized that Musescore 3.5 was released yesterday. This is great and it comes just in time for the upcoming work season. Looking at the upcoming projects I already now know that I will spent plenty of hours in the app.

I sure can’t be the only one to think that Wordpress’s new P2-thingy would make a great Microblog or? It even has keyboard navigation and should have post-entry-box when logged in. I tried an predecessor (O2?) in the past and the only thing that stopped me from using it, was it’s mobile version. I sure have to give this some thought.

Naturally it doesn’t have custom domains as of yet and I’m wondering about RSS.

Firefox’s Quick Find (for links only), invoked by pressing the '-key, has become my favourite way of navigating or opening links on a website. So much more convenient than trying to click something with the mouse or track-pad.

Just by accident I found out that Emacs also has a built-in web-browser (and of course why shouldn’t it) and I was surprised to see that this blog doesn’t look at all that different:

That is seriously cool. At this point I don’t know why I haven’t made the switch over to Emacs earlier.

Finished reading Alan Moore’s The Saga of the Swamp Thing today and enjoyed it a lot. In hindsight I was both a bit bummed, and delighted to figure out that there are plenty more volumes available. Will have to get my hands on those at some point.

I just spend an hour debating with myself about how to better name some files and then re-naming a folder worth of PDFs. Somehow it is clearer now, but I’m still not 100% convinced that only AUTHOR-title.pdf’ is what I want as I’m still missing some kind of tag. But for now, this will do.

My plan to give the blog a face-lift got nowhere further than being a plan. Guess that saves time in the long run. For now real reason I kept wondering of setting up a Wordpress blog again, even though that wouldn’t give me any real benefit.

As I’m now roughly in the middle of my vacation it would be a reasonably good time to slowly start preparing things for work. This usually translates to that I will most likely start re-desiging the blog. At least I have the urge to do so.

An image from yesterday’s trip to the beach. In the past I would have needed a tripod and my DSLR to capture an image like this, now an app comes close. Then again, the quality would have been better, but I would not have taken it, since I wouldn’t have carried it around.

Also: my daily achievement would be setting up an Org-Capture template to post a Microblog entry to my blog. All nicely with header and dates pre-filled. Nice! Will have to expand on this a bit more, but padding myself on the shoulder in any case.

Via Boing Boing I ran into Standard Ebooks the other day. A very nice collection of nicely made public domain e-Books. I will have to have a thorough look at this.

Since I’m in the process of moving things around I also had a look at a demo-account of Nextcloud and that looks very interesting. It ticks all the boxes: it open source, privacy and has inherently more control than elsewhere. Bonus points for that one can choose the host or go down the self-hosted route. Will have to look into that at.

If you follow this blog for a while you know I enjoy horror-/mystery audio-dramas a lot and via Boing Boing I ran into a modern adaptation of Lovecraft’s The Case Dexter Ward by the BBC. This is right up my alley. Think Serial meets The Black Tapes meets Lovecraft.

I stayed up late into the night to finish the show as I really wanted to know how it ends.

Since podcasts are a pain to link to, I suggest you search for it on your player of choice.

After only two weeks my init.el had become a bit hard to navigate and messy, that I did the inevitable and built a myemacs.org file. This was kind of fun and made the file much easier to navigate and view. And from what I can tell, it didn’t even break anything. Seems I make some progress here and am mildly proud of myself.

Even though it had been colder than it looks, we took a trip to the beach in the morning.

During the last few days I have spent a lot of time freeing space on my Windows 10 machine as to create space for dual-booting Ubuntu. Turns out the work was in vain and I had to wipe the hard-drive and re-install Windows before being able to shrink the drive and install Ubuntu after all.

So far things went smoothly but there is now a bunch of updates to be done and of course getting rid of all the pre-installed crap. I really don’t get the need for the latter in the first place.

Anyway, things seem fine at the moment and I guess if things work out fine with the dualboot I will post the next update from there.

Just learned about Riot.im, Matrix and it’s decentralized platform. This looks very interesting. Will have have to set up an account soon as it looks like the answer to my messaging problems. I’m mildly optimistic, but then again thought that before.
